An axon reflex (also referred to as the flare response)〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Applications. Peripheral Autonomic Neuropathy and Axon Reflex. Moor Instruments )〕 is a response brought on by peripheral nerve stimulation. Examples include vasodilation originally described by Lewis as the "hunter's response" or autonomic reaction to loss of body heat in the extremities (also known as "Lewis wave" and "Lewis reaction").〔(Neuroanatomy - Brief review: The axon reflex by Mevlut YAPRAK. Published online 11 March, 2008 )〕 More sophisticated methods of direct observation of the effects of the axon reflex have been developed as imaging tools and techniques advanced over the last part of the 20th century. These sorts of experimental results suggest a mechanism which would explain how the interaction of neural factors and genetic endowments make some individuals more resistant to cold.
